Zenith did a nice job with the watch for what it is - though it still looks intensely unlike a normal timepiece with the large protuberance. The sphere actually extends much more on the dial side of the watch case. So on the back, there is a round bump sticking out, but not so much as to make wearing the watch uncomfortable. So that answers that.
This MB&F finished at € 170,000, frankly, rather disappointing in my opinion. I really could have seen this easily hitting €250,000, especially considering that these official estimates of hammer prices are intentionally low. Was it the economy? Maybe collectors move to the finest houses in economic downturns and times of certainty. That explanation would at least seem to partially explain the amazing result for the Patek.
They call it a unisex watch and it is. The case is 39mm wide which is in that gray area between womens and mens sizes. It wears a bit large thanks to the long pointy lugs that help it extend from one end of your wrist to another. The 250 Series is a thematic update to the brand's previous 150 Series (which is no longer in production). Pretty much everything has been upgraded, especially the dial. Thankfully, that is the best part of this watch. Uniform Wares seems to describe it as a contemporary homage to post WWII men's watches. I honestly have no comment on that, but I quite like the looks of it. For me, it is an interesting combination of minimalist and non-minimalist features coming together for a satisfying result.
Laco mentions that the watch was made in collaboration with the German army. Not sure what that means, but it might mean that it has "ensured" functionality built in. That might also make "das Laco" a bit more desirable to military watch buffs. Attached to the watch is a dive style rubber strap. Like Bathys, Laco places the Squad 1000 in a water and dust resistant case.
Dimensions (exclusive of crown and lugs): 59mm x 38mm x 13mm
Allow me to officially debut liquid timekeeping to you. I teased the HYT H1 watch here recently by showing off the movement and the teaser video (more images there too). Now I can show you the full watch and discuss all that it is. In short, the HYT (Hydro Mechanical Horologists) brand will be dedicated to producing watches with liquid in them. The debut model is called the H1.
Most recently we was wearing a solid 18k rose gold Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph (ref. 25960OR.OO.1185OR.01). I believe this is the piece shown in the article. I actually haven't been able to catch all of Entourage's final season 8 get get the full story on Gold getting the watch. OK, that is all nice and good, but such Hollywood watch placements are common. The fun news is that the show's creator Doug Ellin gifted Piven the watch to keep as a token of his gratitude for Piven's role in the series.
Plus, there is a Vittorium Deep Diver. Very neat looks makes this 47mm wide timepiece one of the most unique affordable Swiss dive watches of the year. Priced at 5. Learn more at Vittorium here.
ETA 2893 GMT movement, respectful hat-tip to the Rolex GMT master that's not a copy, lovely design and CW's usual attention to detail. Why oh why does Rolex refuse to use anti-reflective coatings, for example, on their crystals? So very foolish of them when brands like CW are there to innovate in their place. A steal at 5 non-EC.
"What can one say about the Lum-Tec Combat B15 that is not being said by those that are fortunate enough to own one? Possibly, that there are a couple unexpected perks that are not apparent from just the pictures seen on the web.
